What are you most excited about for your state officer year?
This year, I hope to meet and interact with as many Idaho FFA members as possible! I love that every member has a different story, but we can all unite in the blue jackets together. I can’t wait to learn and be inspired by all of your stories! I am also excited to have the opportunity to travel across the state to many different chapters to learn about their traditions and better understand Idaho agriculture.
What college, major, and future career are you planning?
This fall, I will be attending the University of Idaho to double major in Agribusiness and Accounting. I intend on having a career in agribusiness, and I am excited to see what opportunities college has to offer!
Tell about a meaningful experience you have had in FFA?
One of the most meaningful experiences I have had in FFA was having the opportunity to attend the National Soils competition in Oklahoma City. While on this trip, I got to compete in my favorite Career Development Event and be inspired by what FFA is truly about. This experience was the first opportunity I had in FFA that truly pushed me out of my comfort zone. I met many people from across the country, but I also became lifelong friends with the team from the Preston chapter that we traveled with. This is the first time I met none other than your 2019-2020 State President, Herman Roberts. Herman truly changed my life on this trip because he initiated our shy, exclusive Troy team to get out of their comfort zones and make new friends. I am forever thankful that he initiated that experience because it taught me the importance of inclusivity and showed me how big of an impact FFA could have on my life.
What do you do outside of FFA?
Outside of FFA, I am very involved in other extracurricular activities at my school while keeping up with my SAE projects. Some of the other activities I have been involved in include: cross country, basketball, softball, Business Professionals of America, National Honor Society, and Student Government. When I’m not participating in these events, I love spending time with my friends and family! I love hiking, kayaking, and going for drives on the beautiful back roads of Idaho!
What is your SAE Project?
I have two SAE projects: raising Angus X Charolais beef cattle and showing them at the Latah County Fair and commercial salmon fishing in Alaska! I have been raising cattle on my family’s small-scale cattle ranch, and I currently own 13 head of my own. I have shown a steer at the county fair for nine years as well! My dad owns a commercial fishing boat in Kenai, Alaska where I have spent three summers fishing for him. We drift gillnet for salmon, and I have also brought some fish back home to direct market in the local area.
What is your mission for the year?
This year, my mission is to ensure that every student feels included and welcome in FFA. I hope to help members find themselves, and their passion, through this amazing organization by activating their full potential in leadership and career success. I also hope to grow and develop as an individual and leader by being inspired and having fun with Idaho FFA members!
Is there something else you would like FFA members to know about you?
I LOVE chocolate milk, traveling, and my black lab puppy!
